This week, we interviewed our Senior Graphic Designer, Lauren, to discuss her career progression since joining the instantprint team during the pandemic, her favourite print products and what she gets up to when she's not creating eye-catching marketing materials!

How long have you worked at instantprint and how has your role progressed/what have you learnt?

I started working at instantprint in August 2020 during the Coronavirus pandemic, when working from home was the norm. I originally applied for the role of Graphic Designer and built my experience and knowledge within various projects before being given the opportunity to head up the brand’s design as Senior Graphic Designer in October 2021.

What does your average day look like?

One thing I love about working for instantprint is that no two days are the same. In my first role in the team, my usual day was incredibly varied, consisting of creating emails, social media graphics, updating the website with new imagery, designing landing pages or assets for product launches and blog headers right through to printed marketing material and direct mail.

However, in my new role as Senior Graphic Designer, my role is specifically marketing-based rather than eCommerce, giving me time to purely focus on the branding, social, printed and email side of the business to encourage customers to visit our site and fall in love with us! This allows me to really hone in on the details and show potential print buyers all that instantprint has to offer.

How does your role fit into the customer’s journey?

I feel my role plays an important part of the customer's journey as it’s my job to show them all the reasons why they should come and visit our website. I do this by creating engaging content and imagery throughout our emails, direct mail and social media and working closely with the rest of the marketing team to ensure our strategy is airtight.

What makes you proud about working at instantprint?

My favourite thing about working for instantprint is the work ethic and their strong belief in company values. We hire based on candidates’ values, with the idea that we can teach anything else!

I come into work excited every day to see what new challenge I will be facing. I love how fast the company is growing and changing and it makes me proud to work for a company that continuously improves whilst allowing you opportunities to grow and develop your career further, whether it's through additional training or taking on extra responsibility.

Tell us your favourite memory of working at instantprint!

Definitely the sports day in 2021! A well-loved instantprint tradition, this was the first sports day I participated in since starting with the company and the first one for the team since before the pandemic. Being super competitive myself, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to challenge myself against my colleagues (although I will add I wasn’t too great!) but it was also a great opportunity for us to take part in challenges together and let our hair down for a few hours after a difficult 18 months.

What’s your favourite print product and why?

My favourite print product would have to be our spot UV range. I love the finish spot UV gives to any product, it really makes a massive difference to any product and stands you out from the crowd. It is such a simple and subtle look but makes a massive difference and make a product look more premium.

What’s your favourite project that you’ve worked on so far?

My favourite project that I’ve worked on thus far is our July 21st mailer. We wanted to send out a mailer to our customers to celebrate the lockdown restrictions being eased and being able to celebrate the summer, whilst also showcasing our embellishment range such as spot UV and foiling. Part of this task was to create a ticket with a discount code, a product flyer showcasing our best products and my favourite piece, creating three lots of flyers that each had a different cocktail recipe on, featuring our gold and green foil as well as one flyer with a spot UV finish.

Tell us about your downtime hobbies or a random fact about yourself?

In my spare time, I love taking my little dog, Ralph, for walks around the countryside and exploring new areas locally to me (finished in the pub, of course!). I also enjoy spending some of my free time in the gym. Since I bought my own house, I’ve also found a new love for DIY and decorating.
