Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Wire Bound Booklet?
Wire bound, or wiro bound, booklets are made by binding pages together with a silver-coloured coil. First of all, single pages are stacked up, then holes are punched into the pages down the binding edge. We’ll then feed a silver coloured wire through the holes.
You can choose to bind the long edge or the short edge, which will create a portrait or landscape booklet respectively.
Because of their sturdy wire, wire bound booklets are a popular option for long-life books like manuals, reports and reference materials. As the wire allows you to lay the booklet completely flat, they’re also great for instructional documents.

4 Most Popular Uses of Wire Bound Booklets
1) Instructional Books & Manuals
If you’re looking for a sturdy book for training or product manuals, wiro bound books are a great choice. Their wire coil makes it easy to lay them completely flat, which means instructions across multiple pages are easy to follow and refer back to.
2) Presentation Documents
This wire binding also makes them one of the easiest booklets to digest during a meeting – you can flip the pages a full 180° around the coil so it’s easy to save your place in the book. Print your own A4 wire bound booklets for the perfect presentation handout.
3) Activity Books
The ability to lay your spiral bound booklet out flat also makes them a fantastic option for activity books where the activities run across consecutive pages. From training and presentation activities to the ever-popular colouring and puzzle books, it’s easy to create your own.
4) Reports
Wire bound books are a classic tool for displaying and communicating sales reports. Print out your own A5 booklets for a handy report you and your colleagues can keep in your drawer.
Our Top 3 Wire Bound Booklet Design Tips from Our Studio Team
Here are a few top tips and things to keep in mind when designing your own perfect bound booklets:
1) Remember to Add Bleed
To help keep your bound document looking its best, add a 3mm bleed area around the outside of your wire bound booklet design.
2) Make Way for the Wire!
As well as a standard 3mm safety area within the borders of your design, you’ll need an additional 9mm on the binding side to allow for the punched holes and wire.
3) Spreads or Pages?
Please set your booklet artwork up as separate pages in reading order in one document to send to us.
