Your custom signs have a job to do. A warm welcome, a “this way”, or a shopfront that makes people stop for a second look. At instantprint, we print signs for shops, offices, events and vehicles on five materials. Choose lightweight cardboard or foam for indoor displays, weatherproof Correx® for outdoor promotions and construction signs, long-lasting aluminium for permanent signage, or magnetic material for removable vehicle signs. Every sign is printed in full colour on our EFI Vutek H5, keeping your images crisp, your text sharp and your brand looking the part.
Every order includes a free artwork check, giving your design an extra pair of eyes before we print. Approve your artwork by 5pm and your signs will be dispatched the next working day.
Five materials, each built for a different job. Start with where your sign will live.
Answer four questions and we'll point you at the right material. The table below shows how all five compare.
Rigid, corrosion-resistant aluminium composite with colours that won’t fade. It costs more up front but lasts years outside, which makes it the best value for permanent signs.

Lifespans are typical outdoor guides and vary with exposure.
The most common sign mistake is text that's too small to read from where people actually stand. As a rule of thumb, allow about 32pt of font size for every metre of viewing distance.
Drag the slider to the distance your sign will be read from, and we'll give you the minimum font sizes to use and the smallest standard size that carries it comfortably.
Set these font sizes in your design software with the document at full sign size, for text read from 5m. Keep to one short headline, and allow extra space if the sign has pre-drilled corner holes.
These sizes are a suggested starting point only. Font, contrast, lighting and how fast people pass all affect readability, so check a test print at full size if you can.
Table-top displays and event signage.
Six checks before you upload. Our Studio team check every file free, but getting these right first time keeps your order moving.
Set your document to the exact finished size of the sign you’re ordering.
Work in CMYK so colours print as you expect. RGB brights can shift.
Add 3mm bleed on every edge and keep important text 3mm inside the trim.
Use high resolution images and logos, saved at 300dpi or more.
Save as PDF or JPEG to flatten fonts so nothing moves when we open your file.
Keep key details away from the corners on signs with pre-drilled holes.
For permanent outdoor signs, choose aluminium: it is corrosion-resistant and its colours won’t fade, so it lasts several years. For short-term outdoor signs such as estate agent boards or event directions, Correx® by Corplex is lighter, weatherproof and cheaper. Cardboard and foam are for indoor use only.
Correx® is a 3mm fluted plastic that is weatherproof and recyclable, so it works indoors or out. Foam (Foamex) is a solid 3mm or 5mm PVC board with a smoother, more premium finish, best suited to indoor signs that need to last.
At instantprint, Correx® by Corplex and foam signs can be printed double sided, which is useful when people see both faces, such as a board on a post or a hanging sign. Aluminium, cardboard and magnetic signs are printed on one side.
instantprint magnetic signs are 0.85mm gloss magnetic vinyl, made to stick to vans, cars, lorries, metal doors and fridges. They are weatherproof and peel off cleanly, so you can remove them when the vehicle is used privately.
As a guide, instantprint aluminium signs last several years outdoors, Correx® up to around a year outdoors, foam lasts years indoors, cardboard a few weeks of indoor use, and magnetic signs months on a vehicle. Exposure to direct sun and weather shortens these.
Yes. instantprint prints custom size and shape signs on Correx®, foam, cardboard and aluminium, and custom size magnetic signs. Custom Correx® starts at £18.28 and custom aluminium at £33.62 ex VAT.
instantprint Correx®, cardboard and foam signs come in A4 (210 × 297mm), A3, A2, A1 and A0 (841 × 1189mm). Aluminium signs come in A3 (297 × 420mm) up to A0, and magnetic signs in A4 up to A1 (594 × 841mm). Every material is also available in custom sizes. Pick the size by viewing distance: A3 for a counter or door, A2 or A1 for a shop window or fence, A0 or larger for roadside signs.
Yes. All instantprint rigid signs, including Correx®, foam, aluminium and cardboard, are self-supporting, so they can be screwed, cable-tied or stuck straight onto a surface without a frame. Foam and aluminium come with pre-drilled corner holes, and Correx® can be cable-tied through its flutes.
Signs start at £12.65 ex VAT for foam, £14.69 for cardboard, £14.77 for Correx®, £20.63 for magnetic and £22.13 for aluminium, for the smallest standard size. There is no set-up fee and you can order a single sign.
One sign. instantprint has no minimum quantity and no set-up fee, so you only pay for what you need.
For an instantprint sign, set your document to the exact sign size, use CMYK colour, add 3mm bleed on every edge and keep important text 3mm inside the trim. Use images at 300dpi, flatten or outline your fonts by saving as PDF or JPEG, and keep key details away from the corners on signs with pre-drilled holes.
We recommend roughly 32pt of font size per metre of viewing distance. A sign read from 5 metres needs a headline of about 162pt; from 10 metres, about 324pt. Use the sign size calculator on this page to check yours.
Use the instantprint design online tool and choose from free sign templates, or design in Word, InDesign or Canva using our step-by-step artwork guides. If your design is ready, simply upload it at the basket.
Yes. Every instantprint order gets a free artwork check by our Studio team, and you approve an online proof before anything is printed.
Use big, bold sans serif fonts, keep the message short, choose bright colours that contrast with where the sign will sit, and include your logo and one clear call to action. Most people only catch a key word or two from a sign as they pass.
Signs approved by 5pm on a weekday are dispatched the next working day, with delivery taking a further working day. Approve by 5pm Monday and your signs are dispatched Tuesday and arrive Wednesday. Next day Correx® signs are also available.

You can order your Correx® and foam signs with pre-drilled holes in the corners, so you can screw them straight onto a wall, fence or post. Use stainless fixings outdoors to avoid rust marks.
For foam and aluminium signs, use screws through the pre-drilled corner holes, with stainless steel screws outdoors so they don’t leave rust marks. For Correx®, cable ties work well on railings and fences, and double-sided foam tape works on smooth walls and glass. Magnetic signs need no fixings and stick straight onto steel.
Yes. Correx® signs are the usual choice for estate agent posts and fences because they’re light, weatherproof and can be printed double sided. Cable-tie through the flutes or screw through the board. Aluminium also mounts on posts with its pre-drilled holes and lasts longer outdoors.
Correx® by Corplex, cardboard and aluminium signs are recyclable. instantprint recycles 98% of its own waste output and is working towards Carbon Net Zero by 2035.
