Here at instantprint, we’ve got a whole team dedicated to your artwork. They cover everything from design queries to setting it up for a perfect print job.

To find out more about the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, we shone the spotlight on our Personal Artworker (PA) team. As part of this, we spoke Chris, one of our fantastic PAs. Here, he tells us how he fits into your print journey and his favourite project he’s worked on so far.

  1. When did you start working at instantprint?

I started working at instantprint in April 2015.

  2. What does your role involve?

I have three roles but first and foremost, I’m a Personal Artworker – I’m the first point of call for a customer who wants to place an order but is unsure if their design is suitable for print. I ensure that customer artwork is print-ready and offer valuable advice to make sure the outcome is the best it can be.

I also work the Artwork email inbox which involves directing all artwork submitted via email to the correct place in a fast and efficient manner, ensuring that all customer queries are answered and that our Proofing department receives all the information required to set up a customer’s proof.

My third role is to watch over all proofing queues and inboxes to ensure no area is behind – if so, I’ll reposition myself to help whilst making sure my primary role isn’t affected.

  3. How does your role fit into the journey of instantprint customer's print?

In quite a few ways – my primary role as a Personal Artworker guarantees that the customer’s print looks how it was envisioned once it’s been printed. This is right at the start of the customer journey, before the purchase, to give the customer peace of mind that their print’s going to look amazing.

I also ensure that a customer’s artwork is guided to the correct location, and any problems are resolved before it reaches our proofers – this happens after the purchase and makes sure all communication with the customer is kept prompt and informative if any problems arise.

  4. What makes you proud about working at instantprint?

I’ve seen the company grow from when I started in 2015, and it has provided customers and employees alike with a fantastic experience. The effort and experience involved in creating a customer-focused environment is eye-opening and makes you (and the company) want to succeed.

  5. What's your favourite project you've worked on so far?

My favourite project, and what I’m most proud of, is the Studio Support Tool which I created to aid with the day-to-day tasks that we face – I learned coding in my free time and implemented this into a project which has automated and sped up daily work exponentially.

  6. Tell us about your downtime hobbies or a random fact about yourself

My main downtime hobby would be my fitness activities as I avidly workout and train day to day, which contributes to the random fact! – I used to weigh a quite heavy 21 stone and through effort, will and a positive mindset I am now a healthy 12 stone.

  7. Tell us about a standard day in the instantprint office for you

A standard day would involve, firstly, coordinating with my colleagues in the Personal Artwork team to agree on an efficient way to work through emails from overnight – depending on the outcome of this, I would either work through the artwork emails or Personal Artworker emails.

We alternate between areas to level the workloads – artwork emails, Personal Artworker emails, Personal Artworker tickets and monitoring other areas.

Towards the end of the day, we ensure that all areas are caught up or on top of, and then start to prepare for the next morning.
This all involves a lot of coffee and office banter to keep you going through busy periods.

  8. What do you enjoy the most about working at instantprint?

Working in a position I love! I’m a graphic designer at heart and love being able to share what I know with customers, especially being able to work on what customers provide – it lets me express my creativity and I love the feedback received from happy customers.
Along with the office banter, friendly environment and colleagues, it feels like a second home. :)
