Summer is on its way, which usually means there’s a boom in the hospitality and bar industry! With Gin Day just around the corner too, we thought we’d spend some time chatting with 6 O’clock Gin. The award-winning maker of handcrafted artisan gins, patiently distilled in Bristol that are #StrikinglySmooth.

Making use of print as part of their marketing strategy, we wanted to know more about their business and of course, favourite print products!

Tell us about your business! What’s your mission?  

6 O’clock Gin is a craft gin brand with over 30 years’ experience in the spirits industry. We patiently distil strikingly smooth artisan gins in small batches, using traditional skills and only the best natural ingredients. Proudly British, we are very clear about our values.

The 6 O’clock Gin name was inspired by a long-held family tradition of indulging in the first G&T of the evening at 6 ’clock; a very British custom with colonial roots, still enjoyed at the distillery and shared by gin-lovers all over the world – after all, it’s always 6 o’clock somewhere.

Our intention has always been to build a well-thought-out core range of classic gins that will stand the test of time. This selection is led by our flagship London Dry, which serves as the spirit base for the rest of the range. Our Damson and Sloe are notable for having at least twice the maturation time of other similar gins on the market and our exquisitely engineered Brunel packs a warming, spicy punch. Our deliciously moreish Mango, Ginger & Lime gin was added to the range in 2020 in collaboration with Romy Gill MBE. The full range is available in a variety of sizes and has been adapted into ready-to-drink cans, so you can enjoy our gin wherever the spirit takes you.


What challenges have you faced and how have you overcome them?

The UK gin market is saturated with brands all vying for attention, so standing out can be tough. We’re blessed with a product that tastes as good as it looks and a dedicated, talented and enthusiastic team keen to spread the word of great gin.


Which print products have you found marketing success with?

Table talkers and strut cards are a great way to educate the consumer on your brand and offer an easy solution to providing personalised POS for trade customers. Being front of mind in such a busy market is key to success. 


How do you make your customers feel special?

Our consumers and trade customers are all part of the 6 O’clock Gin family. We appreciate receiving regular feedback and suggestions and talking all things gin. Our 5-star trip advisor rating is a testament to how we engage with our customers on a personal level. By joining our mailing list consumers can be the first to hear about news, competitions and special offers and we love surprising a few of our members every month with 6 O’clock Gin goodies.


What are your top print tips for other businesses in your industry?

The print quality is just as important as the creative or copy used on print media and is sometimes overlooked. For a premium brand like 6 O’clock Gin making sure the customer is receiving an exceptional experience at all touchpoints is very important to us.
