Exhibitions and trade shows are a great way of increasing awareness for your business and acquiring new clients. You often have to pay a fee to attend these types of events but when done correctly this can be a smart investment.
Since we are heading into exhibition season we have put together some pointers to help guarantee you exhibition success.
1. Do your research
Make sure the event you are going to attend will be right for you and your business. You don’t want to attend a technology convention for your new cake making business! Ask the event organisers for statistics from previous years and the sort of audience they expect to attend.
2. Be prepared
Have all of your marketing collateral ready to go. Ensure all information is correct and up to date and arrange a way of recording the details of people you talk to, not everyone has a business card so don’t let them get away!
Find a way of engaging those potential customers as quickly as possible. An eye catching stand area and a competition or task works best. A classic ‘Guess how many sweets are in the jar’ game is simple yet effective and is a great way for collecting delegate’s business cards.
4. Get networking
Don’t wait for people to come to you, walk around the room and visit the other businesses at the event. You may make some important contacts who can aid in growing your business further.
5. Follow ups
This is the aspect of events that many businesses fail to implement successfully. Make sure you contact any prospective clients while you are fresh in their memory and if possible, personalise your correspondence. It’s a good idea to make some notes about each prospective client too so you can tailor your first email to suit their needs.
