What is the minimum and maximum page count for stapled booklets?

instantprint stapled booklets are available from 8 pages (8pp) up to 72 pages (72pp), in multiples of four.

Four pages are used for the covers: the front cover, inside front cover, inside back cover and back cover.

Do stapled booklet page counts need to be in multiples of four?

Yes. instantprint stapled booklets are printed in multiples of four because each folded sheet creates four printed pages.

What paper weights and stocks can I choose for my stapled booklet?

instantprint offers Silk, Gloss and Uncoated inner stocks, in these weights:

  • Uncoated: 90gsm, 120gsm and 170gsm
  • Silk: 115gsm, 150gsm and 170gsm
  • Gloss: 130gsm

Covers are available on 250gsm or 350gsm Silk or Uncoated card, or as a self cover using the same stock as the inner pages.

What is the difference between a self cover and a thicker cover?

A self cover uses the same paper stock for the cover and inner pages, giving the booklet a consistent feel throughout.

For a more substantial finish, instantprint also offers 250gsm or 350gsm Silk or Uncoated cover options.

What is stapled binding?

Stapled binding, also known as saddle stitch binding, uses folded printed sheets secured through the centre fold with two metal staples.

It creates a lightweight booklet that opens easily and is well suited to brochures, programmes, magazines, catalogues and event guides.

What is the difference between long edge and short edge binding?

Long edge binding places the staples along the longest folded edge and is commonly used for portrait booklets. Short edge binding places the staples along the shorter folded edge.

Short edge binding is more suitable for landscape booklets and wider layouts.

Do stapled booklets lay flat when opened?

Stapled booklets open relatively flat because they use a folded, saddle stitched binding rather than a glued spine.

This makes them suitable for artwork, images or information that flows across facing pages.

How should I set up artwork for stapled booklet printing?

Supply your artwork as a print-ready PDF, with each page provided individually in the exact order you want it printed, starting with the front cover and ending with the back cover.

There's no need to arrange pages into spreads or printer's pairs, as instantprint handles the page positioning during production.

How much bleed and safe zone do I need for stapled booklet artwork?

Add 3mm bleed around every edge and keep important text, logos and design elements at least 3mm inside the finished edge.

Artwork should be supplied in CMYK at 300dpi, with fonts outlined or embedded.

Do all four cover pages of my stapled booklet need artwork?

No. You can leave any of the four cover pages blank, but each blank page should still be included in your print-ready PDF so the correct page order is maintained.

You can also use all four cover pages for artwork, branding or additional information.

Can I include blank pages or note pages in my stapled booklet?

Yes. You can include blank pages, lined note pages or other simple pages anywhere in your booklet.

Make sure every page is included in your print-ready PDF in the exact order you want it printed.

How do I add metallic foil or special embellishments to my cover?

To add metallic foil embellishments, select a 250gsm or 350gsm Silk cover with Matt or Velvet lamination.

Keep all foil elements at least 6mm from the trimmed edge and within the safe zone.

Can I order a single stapled booklet or a short print run?

instantprint doesn't currently offer single-copy printing for stapled booklets.

If you want to compare paper stocks and finishes before ordering, you can request a free sample pack to help choose the right option for your booklet.

What's the difference between Stapled, Wiro Bound and Perfect Bound Booklets?

Stapled Booklets use folded sheets secured through the centre fold with metal staples, making them lightweight, cost-effective and suitable for lower page counts.

Wiro Bound Booklets use wire binding along the edge and can open flat, while Perfect Bound Booklets use a glued wraparound cover to create a square spine and a more book-like finish.

How are stapled booklets made?

instantprint prints the inner pages and covers, then collates, folds and staples the sheets through the centre fold.

The finished booklets are then trimmed to size. Binding is carried out on StitchLiner or Muller equipment.

How should I set up my Stapled Booklet artwork?

Follow the steps below to prepare your artwork correctly.

Stapled Booklet Artwork Setup

01 Generate your template

To set up your Stapled Booklet artwork accurately, download the correct page template from our Templates section for your selected page size and page count.

02 Set up your booklet

Supply your artwork as individual pages, in the order they will be printed, rather than as spreads.

For example: Cover, Inside Cover, P1, P2, P3, P4, and so on through to your final page.

We'll arrange the pages correctly for stapling during production.

03 Add bleed & safe zones

Add 3mm bleed and keep important content inside the 3mm safe zone.

Your booklet will be trimmed somewhere between the bleed and safe zone lines, so nothing critical should sit right on the edge.

04 Check your file

Supply your artwork as a 300-600dpi PDF in CMYK, with all fonts outlined or embedded.

Before uploading, check that your page order, bleed and safe zones are correct.

i Please note: Because we carry out extra checks on this product, your proof can take up to 4 hours to arrive.
