Foam Board Signs FAQs
What are foam board signs made from, and how thick are they?
instantprint's foam board signs are made from rigid, lightweight foamed PVC in 3mm or 5mm thicknesses, often referred to as Foamex. Their smooth surface suits full-colour printing for indoor shop displays, receptions and exhibitions.
3mm foam board is lighter and suits signs mounted against a supporting surface. 5mm foam board is thicker and more rigid, making it a good choice for larger displays or signs supported on an easel.
Should I choose foam board, cardboard or Correx signs?
Foam board signs are rigid, PVC-based boards in 3mm or 5mm thicknesses. They suit indoor reception signs, shop displays and exhibition graphics that need to hold their shape.
Cardboard signs are paper-based display boards, approximately 2mm thick. They're recyclable and more flexible than foam board, making them suitable for short-term indoor promotions.
Correx signs are lightweight, weatherproof corrugated plastic boards. They're the better choice for temporary outdoor signs, construction sites and outdoor events.

What sizes of foam board sign can I order?
instantprint's foam board signs are available in A0, A1, A2, A3, A4 and custom sizes.
- A0: 841 × 1,189mm
- A1: 594 × 841mm
- A2: 420 × 594mm
- A3: 297 × 420mm
- A4: 210 × 297mm
Custom dimensions must fall within the limits shown in the product options. The minimum size is 210 × 297mm, so A5 foam board signs aren't available.
Can I order circular or custom-shaped foam board signs?
instantprint's foam board signs can be cut into circles and custom shapes, including speech bubbles and logo outlines. Select Custom Shape under Cut Type. Rectangular signs can have square corners or rounded corners with a 15mm radius.
Custom size changes the dimensions; custom shape changes the outline. Multiple separate designs can't be cut from one larger sheet. Order each different design as a separate basket item.
Can foam board signs be printed on both sides?
instantprint's foam board signs are available with single-sided or double-sided printing. Select your preferred option under Printed Sides when ordering.
Double-sided printing suits shop displays and exhibitions where visitors approach from either direction. Use a display support that leaves both printed faces visible.
Are foam board signs waterproof or suitable for outdoor use?
instantprint's foam board signs offer limited moisture resistance and are recommended for indoor use. They aren't suitable for prolonged outdoor exposure or poor weather.
Correx signs suit lightweight, temporary outdoor signage. Aluminium composite signs suit long-term outdoor use.
Can I order foam board signs with drilled holes?
instantprint's foam board signs are available with drilled holes in all four corners or no holes. Each hole is 6mm in diameter, with its centre positioned 10mm from each adjoining edge.
Custom hole positions, holes in only two corners and eyelets aren't available on foam board signs.
How do I mount or display a foam board sign?
Foam board signs can be mounted using their optional corner holes or compatible adhesive fixings. Adhesive strips, hook-and-loop strips and double-sided tape must be suitable for PVC foam board and your mounting surface.
An easel or display support can hold a foam board sign for exhibitions and shop displays. The board doesn't stand upright on its own.
Choose fixings rated for the sign's size and weight, and check whether adhesives could damage your surface.
Can I order foam board signs with different designs, names or numbers?
instantprint's foam board signs can have different designs, names or numbers when each version is supplied as separate artwork and added as a separate basket item.
Bulk pricing applies to copies of the same design; different designs are priced separately. Automatic variable data and sequential printing aren't available.
For example, ten table-number signs numbered 1 to 10 require ten designs and ten separate basket items.
