Frequently Asked Artwork Questions

What paper type should I choose?

The best paper type depends on how your booklet will be used. Silk is a smooth, professional all-rounder, uncoated is best for writable pages, and gloss gives a high-shine finish that makes colours more vibrant.

Silk paper weights

  • 115gsm Silk: A light paper choice which offers a slight thickness compared to standard home printer paper.
  • 150gsm Silk: Our most popular paper weight with a high-quality finish.
  • 170gsm Silk: Sturdy and versatile with minimal transparency.
  • 250gsm Silk: Thick, durable and completely opaque.
  • 350gsm Silk: Premium card-like thickness with no transparency.

Uncoated paper weights

  • 90gsm Uncoated: Lightweight, budget-friendly option.
  • 120gsm Uncoated: Slightly thicker, great for stationery.
  • 170gsm Uncoated: Strong and versatile with minimal transparency.
  • 250gsm Uncoated: Thick and durable for standout print.
  • 350gsm Uncoated: Premium, card-like feel.

Gloss paper weight

  • 130gsm Gloss: High-shine finish, ideal for vibrant designs and image-heavy prints.
What cover type should I choose?

You can choose a self cover option, or go for a thicker cover with thinner inner pages.

A popular choice is 150gsm silk inner pages with a 350gsm silk cover this allows for you to see the thickness contrast between the two stocks, another popular, more affordable option is the self cover option.

What does ‘pp’ mean?

‘Pp’ refers to printed pages. Four of these pages are used for the cover (front, back and inside covers).

How will my booklets be printed?

Inner pages are printed on our Truepress, while covers are printed lithographically or on our Indigo press.

Booklets are then bound using StitchLiner or Muller machines.

What are my perfect bound booklets printed on?

We use our state-of-the-art Landa Nanopraphic press to print your book pages and then bind them together with your cover stock on either a Horizon or our Kolbus KM600 depending on the quantity ordered.

How do I upload my booklet design?

Upload your artwork using our website uploader after ordering, where you can proof and approve it.

If you have issues, email artwork@instantprint.co.uk.

How do I add foil to my print?

Select 250gsm or 350gsm silk with matt lamination to unlock foil options.

Foil must be at least 6mm from the edge and stay within the safety area.

DL Perfect Bound Booklets Delivery

Standard Turnarounds

For our standard turnaround and delivery options, you have until 6:30pm to order and approve your artwork. Simply select an option above with a delivery date that suits you and we’ll ensure it arrives with you on time.

Extended Areas

If your delivery address is in one of the postcodes highlighted on our delivery help page as an extended area, delivery will take a further working day.

Delivery Prices

Our standard delivery cost is £4.99, which is DPD tracked delivery. You can also upgrade to DPD pre-noon delivery for £9.99. Standard delivery is free on orders over £75. You'll be able to select your delivery option at the checkout. For more information, please see our delivery help page .

Our blank templates are set up to the right size with guides that include where your design will be cut and the safe area for text. After creating your artwork you can upload once you have added your print to the basket.

Setting Up Your Perfect Bound Book

We recommend you download one of our blank templates that can be found in the templates section or use the product measurements on the right to create a design in a third-party tool.

Please supply your cover and inner pages in separate files and then we’ll put the book together for you and send you a proof. We may need to adjust your artwork to accomodate the spine but we'll contact you if this affects the design of your book.

Setting Up Your Perfect Bound Book

Email your artwork after purchase to artwork@instantprint.co.uk (we recommend using WeTransfer to send large files). Our Studio team will check for common issues and may adjust your spine if needed. A ‘proof’ will be generated which they will email to you – simply approve this proof to confirm your order!

Please note, due to the extra checks that we carry out for this product, it can take up to 4 hours to receive your proof.
