How to design a full colour letterhead?
Whether you have your own in-house design team or are taking on the project yourself, designing your own business letterhead is easier than you think. With a few simple tips to get you set up, you’ll be putting all those creative ideas in your head into your chosen design.
Before you get started, it’s important to note that we print your business paper to A4 size, which is 210mm x 297mm, so set your artwork up at 216mm x 303mm to allow for a 3mm bleed on both sides. You’ll need to ensure your colour mode is set as CMYK, and that if you use any imagery it is high resolution only (at least 300dpi). If you use any special or branded fonts then you will need to either embed or flatten them to ensure they print correctly.

Which letter headed paper type is suitable for my needs?
No matter the budget you are working to, we have the paper stock for you. Within our offering we have three different options that are ideal for every occasion. Our value uncoated (90gsm) paper is perfect for everyday use, whether you’re sending a thank you letter, a receipt or perhaps confirmation of an appointment or meeting.
The classic uncoated (120gsm) paper type is a popular choice among many of our customers and is suitable for all communications. Want a more premium look and feel? Our 170gsm uncoated paper stock is much thicker and is ideal if you’re wanting to send out job offer letters, important contracts or maybe even a proposal to a potential new client!
How is my professional letter headed paper printed?
When you hit the button to complete the purchase of your letterheaded printing, your design goes on an incredible journey through the instantprint factory. Once it reaches us it will head to a member of our specialist Studio team. Here is goes through our unique and rigorous 10 point quality check process, which ensures that everything is perfect before your design goes off to be printed.
Once on the printing floor, it will head to one of our impressive machines. Orders of letterheads over 500 copies will be printed lithographically. If you order 500 letterheads or less, we’ll print them digitally on our iGen press*.
*Please note: Due to using different machines for certain quantities, colours may differ depending on the number of letterheads you order.
How do I upload my letterhead design?
We’ve worked to make the ordering and uploading process as simple and pain-free as possible when it comes to your business headed paper. When you add your personalised letterhead design to your basket, you’ll be prompted to upload your artwork. Alternatively, if you’re stocking up on all of your business stationery and want to continue shopping, you can upload your artwork in your basket at a later time.
Are my letterheads sustainable?
All of our business stationery is printed on responsibly sourced, FSC certified stock. Here at instantprint, we’re conscious about cutting our carbon footprint, which is why we’re committed to doing everything we can to use sustainable energy and reduce waste. All of our letterhead printing takes place in our South Yorkshire facility, which is powered by 100% renewable energy. Can I print on my order after receiving it?
Absolutely! Our uncoated stationery products are compatible with laser printers as long as you order a quantity of 500, as these orders are processed through our litho stream.
