How Do Type IIR Surgical Masks Work?
Type IIR surgical face masks filter the expelled air/mucous/spit of their user to protect those around them from infection. Our OBISK type IIR surgical face masks are 3-ply, meaning they have three protective layers designed for both safety and comfort.
Here’s a little bit more about the materials we use to create our medical face masks.
- 1The outer layer is made from hydrophobic nonwoven fabric which keeps the face masks splash resistant up to 16 kPa.
- 2The middle layer is where the magic happens, as the meltblown nonwoven fabric acts as a protective filter, boasting > 98% bacterial filtration efficiency.
- 3Finally, the hydrophilic inner layer is ultra-soft for sensitive skin and reduces moisture within the mask.
- 4Complete with elasticated ear loops and adjustable wire nose bridge that bends to fit the shape of your nose, these comfortable, one-size-fits-all surgical face masks are perfect for laypersons, medical professionals and key workers exposed to blood and other bodily fluid.
Medical Grade Face Mask Manufacturing Right Here in the UK
Our company-wide goal is to give business everything they need to grow, including a helping hand when things get tough. So, taking the steps to become a professional medical face mask supplier for UK businesses was a no-brainer.
Our 145,000sq ft facility provided more than enough room for step one: transforming our building and creating ISO clean rooms to house a surgical mask production facility.
We’ve always prided our team in being experts at what they do, and we’ve all certainly learnt a lot in the last few months – from non-woven fabrics, ultrasonic welding and air filtration systems to the European testing standard certification and medical device registration.
The launch of our sister company, Bluetree Mask Box, means you can now buy face masks for NHS workers, care workers, dentists, vets and other businesses and organisations with key workers and frontline staff, to help keep your team – and the people they’re helping – safe.
Who Should Wear Medical Grade Face Masks?
The OBISK surgical face masks are intended as an infection control measure and can be used across a range of professions where workers are on the frontline and come into contact with others, and are suitable for use in professional medical settings as medical devices.
These masks are ideal for laypersons, NHS workers, dentists, care home assistants, vets and other keyworkers who may be exposed to blood and other bodily fluids as part of their occupation.
What Does Type IIR Face Masks Mean?
The standard for medical face masks is BS EN 14683:2019. There are three different types of masks in this standard: Type I, II and IIR. All of these medical face masks have a microbial cleanliness of ≤ 30cfu/g.
However, unlike type I and II, type IIR facemasks – like our OBISK face masks – are splash resistant, and have a splash resistance pressure of ≥16.0kPa.
Type IIR surgical masks differ from other types of masks, like FFP masks (AKA N masks). Essentially, surgical masks are used to protect the people around the user from infection, whereas FFP masks protect the user from infection.
Our OBISK medical grade face masks are best used in professional and medical settings to help keep patients and customers safe.
Can OBISK Surgical Face Masks be Disinfected and Reused?
Our medical face masks are disposable, single-use products and are not designed to be disinfected and reused. Reusing these masks can increase the risk of infection being transmitted.
