The History of Greetings Cards

It’s no secret that we at instantprint hold a torch for greetings cards. In a world where social media, phones and email make it easy to receive messages in an instant, there’s something special about giving or receiving a handwritten or personalised card.

The tradition of sending greetings cards is stronger now than it’s ever been, with UK sales having grown by a staggering £60 million in the last two years alone; but what we don’t often hear about is how the tradition initially came to be.

Whether it’s down to great design, the personal touch they offer, or their ability to express something much better than we could ourselves, greetings cards are to this day an integral part of our culture, and we only hope that they remain that way for years and years to come.
